Let OneTerp suggest your mileage
Turn the jobs you actually drove to into suggested mileage entries for your own tax records, which you review before anything is saved.
Reconstructing a day's driving weeks later is the worst part of tax season. OneTerp can route the day you actually worked, home to the first job, between the jobs, and back home again, and offer you the mileage as suggestions you can accept.
Step by step
- 1Click "Home" in the sidebar, open the "Earnings, Expenses & Taxes" tab, then choose "Expenses & Ledger".
- 2Pick the year and quarter at the top of the page, then find the "Suggested mileage" section.
- 3Decide whether to tick "Start and end my mileage at home". On, it counts the drive out to your first job and back from your last. Off, it counts job to job only.
- 4Click "Calculate for" and the period you picked. OneTerp routes each day you worked and lists the suggested mileage by day.
- 5Review each day. Click "Add" on the ones that are right, or "Add all" when every suggestion checks out.
Tips
- 🔴 This is your tax record and nothing else. A suggestion never changes the travel or mileage on a job closeout, never changes what an agency bills, and never changes what anyone pays you. Your agency does not see it.
- Nothing is saved until you add it. The suggestions are there to be checked, not to be trusted blindly, because only you know which trips you actually made.
- Counting the drive from home needs your street address, city and state (or ZIP) on your Profile.
- Suggested mileage is part of OneTerp Premium. Logging mileage by hand is free.
- If one leg of a day cannot be routed, the whole day is held back with the reason shown, rather than offering you a total that is quietly missing a trip.
- A job you worked as W-2 staff is used as a stop on the route but is not offered as its own suggestion, because those miles are your employer's to reimburse rather than a deduction you claim.
- The rate used is the one you set on your expenses, and it is stamped onto each entry as you add it.
