Set an interpreter's employment type and pay rates
Choose 1099 contractor or W-2 employee per interpreter and set their base, travel, and differential rates.
Pay terms are set per relationship, so the same interpreter can be a contractor at one agency and an employee at another. Only owners and admins can manage rates.
Step by step
- 1On the Interpreters tab, click an interpreter to open their detail slide-over.
- 2Choose "Propose rates" (managers only) to open the rate editor.
- 3Set the employment type (1099 contractor or W-2 employee), base hourly rate, travel rate, minimum billing duration, and cancellation policy.
- 4For W-2 employees, also set overtime thresholds and multipliers and an informational PTO balance, which appear only for the employee type.
- 5Add any named differential rates (for example night or weekend) using the rate editor.
- 6Save to send the proposal; the interpreter is notified and the rates take effect once they approve.
- 7When an interpreter counter-proposes their own differential rates, open the deep-linked notification to review their proposal and Approve or Reject it.
Tips
- Coordinators cannot view or change pay rates, this is enforced both in the interface and in the data rules.
- PTO balances are informational only and may go negative; they do not block scheduling.
- Rate negotiation is two-way: you can propose rates to the interpreter and they can propose rates back to you for approval.
