For everyone🚀 Getting Started

Choose your languages

Search the shared language list to set the languages you interpret or your agency offers, and what to do when one is missing.

OneTerp has one shared list of about 160 languages, signed and spoken, and everyone picks from it: agencies choose the languages they offer, and interpreters choose the languages they work in. Because everyone uses the same names, a job in Tigrinya finds the interpreters who listed Tigrinya at every agency they work with. That is also why you pick from the list rather than typing your own.

Step by step

  1. 1Interpreters: open Account Settings and find Languages on the Profile tab. New interpreters set the same list during setup.
  2. 2Agencies: open Settings, Operations & Alerts, Active Languages. New agencies also set it in the Languages and rates step of agency setup.
  3. 3Start typing in the search box, then click a language or press Enter to add it. Every language you pick shows as a chip above the box.
  4. 4Remove one with the × on its chip.
  5. 5Under your chips you may see "Often paired" suggestions, for example Signed Exact English, Contact Signing (PSE) and Protactile once you pick American Sign Language. Click one to add it, or ignore them. Nothing is added unless you click.
  6. 6Save the page. Agencies: each language you offer also needs a rate before jobs in it can be audited and invoiced.

Tips

  • Search understands common alternate names and abbreviations: ASL, PSE, LSF, Persian for Farsi, Tigrigna for Tigrinya, Filipino for Tagalog.
  • Sign languages on the list include American Sign Language, Black ASL, Protactile, Signed Exact English, Contact Signing (PSE), Cued Speech, International Sign, and the British, Mexican, Quebec, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese and Japanese sign languages, plus Auslan.
  • Book a spoken pair by its non-English language. A Spanish and English job is a "Spanish" job, and it matches interpreters who listed Spanish.
  • Can't find a language? Choose Other for now and tell us through Support so we can add it to the list for everyone. Keep in mind that "Other" is a single catch-all: every interpreter who picked Other matches every Other job, so write the real language in the job notes.
  • Your languages decide who is matched to a job. Best Fit and the fill queue only suggest interpreters who list the job's language, and while you drag a job on the dispatch board, everyone who doesn't list it is dimmed.
  • Turning a language off at your agency deletes nothing. Jobs already booked in it keep it, and you can turn it back on any time.
  • A job imported with a language that isn't on the list keeps that language, and the job form still shows it. No interpreter can list it, though, so rebook the job in a listed language, or ask Support to add it.
